Today was awesome. We had another lecture about China’s economic system, which was interesting. I previously didn’t know much at all about the economic growth of the PRC, so I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture. I never knew how much hardship the Chinese farmers had to experience during the Great Leap Forward. I also had no idea how much U.S. currency the Chinese had control of, and it makes me think that the U.S. and China should be more open with each other and allow less restrictions on trade. It would be to the benefit of both countries. Lastly, I never knew exactly how poor the rural residents of China are and how many there are. Apparently over 3000 million Chinese live on less than $1 a day! That’s ridiculous!
We had our last company visit to Hanvon, which was actually enjoyable. Our tour guide spoke only Chinese, which was a challenge, but Claudia and Dr. Gao were both there to translate. I really liked the products the company had to offer; many of them were very innovative. I thought the text reader was really cool and I would definitely invest in one. I also thought the e-book reader was a great product.
For dinner we went to a karaoke restaurant, which was a ton of fun. I was surprised at how many well-known, English songs were available. We arrived after the majority of the food was served, so we ordered McDonald’s later at the hotel. The delivery person brought it right to our room! This was something I’ve never seen in America, and it was a welcome treat.
