Today we went to the Summer Palace; it was a massive estate where the emperor used to reside for parts of the year. It is currently a historical site offering views into their old residence as well as a museum showing off very attractive pieces of artworks and sculptures. Before we even go in our day got off to a good start. We got to see two street vendors selling purses almost get into a street brawl but it got broken up after about ten minutes of screaming at one another. Although the artwork was very nice, and the view from the upper temple was spectacular the hands down best part of the day was the rental paddle boats. What started off as a leisurely tour of the complex quickly turned into a water war, including a high speed chase, an aquatic assault, daring maneuvers, and a few collisions. In America we could never get away with things like that it was a great time. After the Summer Palace we went to get food called hot-pots. They are similar to American fondue but very confusing. The goal is basically to boil all your food then pick it out and eat it but it is much more challenging than it sounds. It wasn’t bad but it was not my favorite thing this week. It was a lot of work and the sesame sauce was not quite what I was expecting. After this we went back and rested for a bit before we went out to enjoy the nightlife. Everybody is very kind to us, being a novelty really is not as bad as it may sound, everybody gives us good tables, and waits on us immediately.
