Day 11 Today after breakfast we all packed on the bus for our tour of Fragrant Hill. Fragrant Hill was not what I was expecting at all. I thought it was going to be more similar to the Summer Palace, with just winding paths through endless gardens. Once we arrived we found out it is actually another hike up a huge mountain to get to the overlook. Abby and I opted for taking the sightseeing cable cars up the mountain which I believe was the best idea. It was like a ski chairlift this time so we were able to feel the breeze and smell the flowers the whole way up the hill. Once at the top there was an overlook where you could see for miles! You could almost see Beijing but it was pretty hazy. Once the rest of the group made it up and were able to rest for awhile, I went with them going back down. It only confirmed that taking the chairlift was the best idea because I think we literally ran down over 5000 stairs! It took forever and even that made me exhausted. After looking around the gardens a bit we went to the Peking Duck restaurant. It was delicious. We had duck along with many other kinds of meat. It was just what we needed after a day of hiking. My favorite part was taking the duck and making one of the wraps using the duck sauce. After a three hour nap, we went back to Tsinghua University to meet some students and talk with each other about the differences and similarities of our lives. What I found very interesting was how inexpensive their education is, especially at such a good school.
