Today was awesome! We went to go check out the site of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The Birds nest was such a cool building to look at as a structure. The “twigs” were giant beams of metal that twisted and fused together to get the nest effect. Once we went inside, there was a man who was tight rope walking across the entire length of the stadium. It was a little bit windy, and I was scared that he would fall, but naturally, he didn’t. Then we went to look at the water cube, where all of the water events took place. It was closed so we couldn’t see the inside, but we took lots of pictures of the outside. We ended up going back to the water cube later that night, in hopes of seeing it lit up in different colors, but sadly we had no luck.
Later on in the day, we went on a company visit to Lenovo. I really enjoyed the visit because everything in the company looked so sleek and modern. I used to think that Lenovo only manufactured the ThinkPad, but now I know that their products can be marketed to the U.S. and on the private level. I used to think that I was on the cutting edge of sleekness with my Macbook Pro, but now I’m convinced that the next computer that I get will be a Lenovo product. They have all of the things that Apple does, even the Smart Pad, but they just don’t market it to America.
After the visit, we went back to the hotel and we decided to go to an ancient street that was much like old time China. The shops weren’t too modern as they sold primarily tea, calligraphy, and weapons. Right off this street, we got a taste of what the non-city, non-Beijing part of China looks like. It was disgusting. The streets were small and dirty, and they were selling really gross parts of animals as well as weird animals in general. It wasn’t clean at all and nothing was refrigerated. I feel like the immune systems of these kind of people are great because of the non-sterile things that they eat.
